Heavy Events
Competition Heats up in 2013.
A hallmark of the highland games is the heavy event competition. The Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games has been proud to present the best in traditional Scottish Highland Games athletic competitions. 2013 will be no exception. We will play host to the Canadian Scottish Athletic Federation (CSAF) Mens Championship. Ten men from all over Canada will compete in a multitude of different events each day, declaring a winner on Sunday.

Owen W. Willems
Born on January 22, 1984 in London, ON. Moved to Guelph, ON to attend University in 2003 and never left!
2013 will mark Owen’s third full season in the Heavy Events. At 6’2” and 260 lbs soaking wet Owen comes from a track and field background.
Owen holds degrees in Molecular Biology and Genetics (B. Sc.) and Animal Breeding & Genetics (M. Sc.) from the University of Guelph and is currently working towards his Ph.D from the same institution. In his spare time Owen coaches the throwers for the University of Guelph’s track and field team.

 Competition Commentator - David P. Webster O.B.E
From Irvine, Scotland, David P. Webster O.B.E. has a passion and great knowledge of the world’s highest standards of strength and physical culture sports. His skills surpass all others and have placed him in great demand worldwide. He is also an accomplished author, his most recent book is A World’s Illustrated History of Highland Games. Fresh this year from The Gathering in Edinburgh, Scotland, the athletic competitions are always greatly enriched by Webster’s colourful commentary.
